Voglia di un bel romanzo? Se siete alla ricerca di una lettura coinvolgente e intensa il mio consiglio è: Non lasciarmi di Kazuo Ishiguro
Di Ishiguro molti avranno letto (o almeno visto il fim) la sua opera più famosa: “Quel che resta del giorno”. Non conoscendo bene quest’autore ne ho approfittato per recuperare questo romanzo del 2005 di cui avevo sempre sentito parlare un gran bene. Cercherò in ogni modo di evitare spoiler.
La voce narrante, Kathy, con tono pacato e riflessivo, ci racconta la sua vita. E’ una trentenne dall’esistenza abbastanza tranquilla. Non ha genitori ed è vissuta fino all’adolescenza in un collegio completamente isolato nella campagna inglese. Assieme ad altri bambini come lei e grazie a tutor distaccati ma competenti, è cresciuta circondata da cultura, sport e arte, stimolata continuamente a esprimere al massimo la propria creatività.

Episodi di vita apparentemente banali, tipici del percorso verso l’età adulta: scontri, innamoramenti, gelosie e allenze. Le regole del collegio e i discorsi di alcuni insegnanti però ci fanno capire che c’è qualcosa di anomalo nell’esistenza di questi ragazzi. Kathy, che per un periodo ha perso di vista Ruth e Tommy, li rincontra proprio nelle cliniche dove lavora e decide di diventare la loro assistente. Sarà l’occasione per chiarire le incomprensioni del passato e per tentare, in un ultimo disperato tentativo, di vivere l’amore e garantirsi una briciola di quel futuro che per tutti loro è inevitabilmente precluso.

Quello che posso dirvi è che il mondo di Kathy, Ruth e Tommy è una distopia, un possibile oggi, agghiacciante ma non assurda. Un dilemma etico emerge con potenza e ci riguarda tutti: cosa siamo disposti a fare, quali principi possiamo calpestare per garantire il nostro benessere? E poi: cosa fa di un essere umano una persona?
Questo romanzo arriva piano piano. Senza accorgersene, grazie al racconto di Kathy, ci si ritrova completamente immersi nelle loro vite. Lo stile di Ishiguro è pacato, pulito e chiaro. La descrizione dei personaggi e degli ambienti è molto efficace e in grado di creare immagini indelebili, ad esempio il brano in cui compare la canzone (Never let me go di Judy Bridgewater) che da il titolo al romanzo.
Forse il suo modo di raccontare può sembrare “freddo”; in realtà, with elegance and dignity,,it,tackles delicate and very important issues,,it,managing to touch our soul and move deeply,,it,Highly recommended,,it,NATURAL BORN READER - DO NOT LET ME,,it, affronta temi delicatissimi e molto importanti, riuscendo a toccare la nostra anima e a commuovere profondamente.
